Christian marriage biodata
Start from this page and your biodata opens with a cross, without the horoscope fields (gotra, rashi, nakshatra and manglik) that Christian families do not use. In their place are your denomination and your church or parish.
Biodatas are often shared through the parish, friends at church and family WhatsApp groups, so it helps to name your church clearly. You can rename any field, for example Denomination to Rite or Diocese.

Details Christian families usually include
- Denomination
- Roman Catholic (Latin, Syro-Malabar or Syro-Malankara), Orthodox or Jacobite, Marthoma, CSI, CNI, Pentecostal, Baptist and so on. Families often prefer the same denomination, so be specific.
- Church or parish
- Your parish and its town, for example St. Mary's Church, Kottayam. Families and priests use it to place you, and to make enquiries if they wish.
- Baptism name
- If you have one and use it, add it as your own field. Kerala Christian biodatas often list it alongside the given name.
- House name
- Many Kerala Christian families add the house name, for example Puthenpurayil, which tells others which family you belong to. Add it as your own field in family details.
- Education and work
- Your degree, your role and the city you work in. If you work abroad, say where and on what kind of visa, if you are comfortable sharing it.
- Faith and church life
- Optional, and best placed in About me: for example, active in the youth group, the choir or Sunday school.
Customs that differ by region
- Kerala
- Families usually list the parish, the diocese and the house name, and many add the mother's house name too.
- Goa and Mangalore
- Catholic families often mention the parish and the village, which tell others a good deal about the family.
- Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh
- CSI, Lutheran and Catholic families commonly name the church and the town, and sometimes the pastor.
- North East
- Baptist and Presbyterian families often add the church and the clan or tribe, if that matters to the family.
Before a church wedding
Most churches in India ask for a baptism certificate and a letter from your parish before the wedding, and many Catholic parishes ask couples to attend a marriage preparation course. Naming your parish on the biodata makes these steps easier later.
Marriages between some denominations need permission from the church, and the rules differ from church to church. If this applies to you, mention your denomination clearly and talk to your parish priest early.
The line at the top
The cross is set for you. You can type a short Bible verse instead, such as “Love is patient, love is kind” (1 Corinthians 13:4) or “What God has joined together, let no one separate” (Mark 10:9), or leave the line empty.

Questions
What should a Christian marriage biodata include?
Your name and photo, date and place of birth, height, denomination, church or parish, education and work, family details, a few lines about you, and a contact number.
Do Christian biodatas need horoscope details?
No. Start from this page and the gotra, rashi, nakshatra and manglik fields are left out.
Should I mention my denomination?
Yes. Families often prefer the same denomination, and it can affect church permissions for the wedding, so it helps to be clear from the start.
What can I write at the top instead of a cross?
A short Bible verse such as “Love is patient, love is kind”, a line like “Praise the Lord”, or nothing at all.
Can a Catholic marry someone from another denomination?
Often yes, with the church's permission, but the rules differ by church. Ask your parish priest early; listing denominations on the biodata helps families raise it in time.
How do I add my baptism name or house name?
Tap “Add a field” in personal or family details, name it Baptism name or House name, and fill it in.
Should I mention my diocese?
If families or your parish are likely to ask, yes. Rename the Church / parish field, or add a Diocese field next to it.
I work abroad. What should I add?
The country and city, your role, and whether you plan to settle there or return. Families and parishes usually ask about all three.
Should a Christian biodata have a photo?
Yes, one recent photo of just you. Many families also like a full-length or family photo, which you can add on the second page.
